CHANGE in report card pick-up time

Dear St. Paul Families and Friends,
We have changed the date for report card pick-up. You may pick-up report cards (and standardized test results, awards, etc.) TOMORROW from 1-3 PM. Any left after 3 PM will be mailed home later this week. Please also pick-up any medications left in the front office at this time.
The change in pick-up date is due to the funeral service for Floyd Zuehlke, Sr., to be held here on Wednesday at 2 PM. Mr. Zuehlke was one of our oldest members of St. Paul -- baptized, confirmed, and married here. As a beloved member of our church, a great friend of both church and school ministries, and a prominent central Texas businessman, we expect a large turnout. By moving our pick-up date, we hope to avoid any conflict or distraction from his service. We offer our deepest condolences to the Zuehlke family, with praise and thanksgiving for a long life led in service to His Lord.

    Notes from the Secretary 5/17/17

    Happy Wednesday!

Before I get to the last to-do's of the school year, I have some thoughts to share from behind-the-scenes at St. Paul. Although I'm tucked away in the front office much of the time (between my famous fast walks throughout the school), it's been a joy to care for and support your precious littles. My eyes have been a bit misty all morning, as I prepare items for tomorrow's graduation. I already miss the friends, big and small, who will be leaving St. Paul. And, I pray for each of the families of students, faculty, and staff, to know and appreciate the life-long impact you have made on our Lions. It's been a privilege to witness:
    • Praise through song! Maybe it's the ice cream or pizza party rewards that Pastor Kalbas promises, but I hear all versions of joyful praise -- from a loud group to quiet humming to oneself. Your children know the love of Jesus through song!
    • Friendship and compassion! Our Lions are eager to escort a sick or injured friend to the office, they encourage all friends to play, and, boy, do they truly celebrate birthdays with extra cha-cha-cha's and many God's blessings. Your children show the love of Jesus through their actions!
    • Prayer! Prayer in the morning, prayer in the middle of the day, and prayer at the end of school. In all things, prayer. They pray for you, their family, their friends, and for things that they hear about around them. Your children seek Jesus through prayer!
    • Grace, patience, and love! For this, I pray daily. God's unwavering grace and mercy have rained down on St. Paul for more than 127 years, and will continue to do so. I pray that we model His grace, grant patience, and show Christian love to one another in all actions and at all times. May God bless you throughout the summer!

    Weekly Newsletter 4/24/17

Dear St. Paul Families and Friends,

One month of school left (but, who's counting?)! Please continue to encourage your student to keep working hard, stay focused, and finish the year on a high note.

Thank you for your amazing turnout for Friday's Field Day! To say we had a full house is an understatement. It has been awhile since we had so many guests, and had to worry about new "problems" with parking, long lines, and even running out of items. Your efforts and attitude did not go unnoticed, as our visitors repeatedly shared their gratitude and praise for the hard work and smiles you shared. We pray your family enjoyed the time and made special memories! Speaking of memories, please send your best photos of Field Day or any other St. Paul memory to photos@stpaulthorndale.com for the yearbook!

Once we wrapped up Field Day as best we could, we looked to next year's PTF plans at Sunday's retreat. Thank you to those who shared your time and ideas with us yesterday. If you were unable to join us for the retreat, please complete and return the reply sheet that was sent home last week for your chance to share your thoughts with the PTF committees.

    Notes from the Secretary 4/20/17

    Happy Thursday!

Many thanks and high-fives to the volunteers who helped with field prep yesterday! It looks great! Today's super-volunteer bonus opportunity is helping with concession prep and set-up. Please see Karen Clark, the concession crew, or me after school to help.

Before we get in last minute plans for tomorrow, please remember we have our annual PTF year-end retreat THIS SUNDAY at 11:45 AM at Julio's in Rockdale. We will wrap-up by 2:30 PM at the latest, and will squeeze in lunch and brainstorming/action plans for next year. ALL SPL PARENTS are welcomed. This is your chance to influence what we do and how we operate as St. Paul's biggest fans! If you cannot attend, please return the response form that should be in your child's backpack.

Looks like we've got made-to-order field day weather in store for tomorrow! Quick reminders:

    • If you volunteered for an event shift outside of the concession, look for a separate email this afternoon with schedule/reminders from my office.
    • Remember, NO SCHOOL FOR PRE-K THROUGH 2ND GRADE. Our youngest Lions are welcome to come cheer for us but, for their safety, they MUST BE SUPERVISED by an adult at all times.
    • Brownies, cookies, or rice krispie treats from K-2 Grade families may be dropped off in the office after school today, or at the concession in the morning.
    • St. Paul families typically park along 4th Street (and in the two church lots on 4th) when they arrive. This allows more room in the parking lots for our guests. Thank you for your help as fabulous hosts!
    • Grades 3-8 should arrive to the gym by 8:30 AM, and stay in the gym with their class when they arrive.
    • Students will be responsible for making sure they are at their events on time to compete. Blue St. Paul shirt and good tennis shoes, please!
    • Guests are welcome to join us for Field Day! Opening Ceremonies are at 9 AM in the gym, followed by events all day long.
    • Tents are welcomed along the perimeter of the north field.
    • Bring sunscreen, cash for the concessions (including world-famous hamburgers!), and your Lion spirit!
